To install a mod, you need to download Minecraft Forge. Forge makes it possible for the mods to connect to Minecraft. To install Forge, click this link to their site: Minecraft Forge Select on the side panel of the website the version of Minecraft you are using, otherwise the mods won't work. Installing Minecrat mods isn't rocket science, nor is it child's play. Here's our guide to installing mods on Windows and Mac OS X in a matter of.

That depends on the mod you want to install, as they can sometimes vary in dependencies. Since most mods just depend on Forge, these steps should do for the most part;. Install and launch the game if you haven't already.
Go to and download the 'Recommended' installer (if you're on windows, click the 'Windows Installer' button. If you're on Mac or Linux, click on the 'Installer' button).
Run the file you downloaded. Click on 'Install client' if its not already selected, then press OK. Launch the game again, this time using the newly created 'Forge' profile (which should be automatically selected) in order for it to create the necessary files/folders, then shut it down again. Download the mods you want to install.
The only mods you should download are the ones you get from and, as everything else should be considered to be dangerous. Make sure the mods you're downloading are compatible with Minecraft version 1.12 and requires Forge (not LiteLoader or something else, as you're not installing that atm)., and then open the 'Mods' folder within that.
Drag and drop the mod files (which should be.JAR files) into the folder. Launch the game using the Forge profile again, and (if everything worked,) enjoy your new mods.If a mod requires some dependencies in order to work, you'll have to install these as well.
Usually these are just more Forge mods that you can install like any other. The easiest way to get started is to use a mod-launcher like curse, atlauncher or FeedTheBeast-Launcher.Then you just browse through the list of modpacks and click install on whichever you prefer.Since the modpacks they offer are different, I use all 3 of them. (well, 2, since curse/twitch doesn't work on my machine.)Some people still prefer the manual way of copying forge and mods into your vanilla installation, but I think risking to mess up your vanilla installation, when a mod-loader does it for you, without any risk of losing your progress in vanilla, doesn't make sense. When I get risk-free automation, I'll take that. Install minecraft forge on a version you would like (Keep in mind not many mods are on latest versions, so try Somewhere around 1.7 or 1.8)When you get it your minecraft folder should have a mods file.Go to a site like planetminecraft and download a mod you would like with the same Minecraft version as the forge you downloaded.
And pop it in the mods foler (It is usually a jar file)When you go to your Mineraft launcher, go to the profiles and change your version to the forge one. Enter minecraft and you're set! Also make sure to not enter multiplayer servers with your mods on.:.
